Technique page - Minimum Depth of Field

Minimum Depth of Field (DOF) Is the technique where you open up your aperture to let in the most amount of light. For example if a lens goes from f2.8 to F32 then minimum DOF would always be f2.8.
But the DOF also depends on how far you are away from the subject. The closer you are to the subject the smaller the depth of field and the farther away the subject the greater the DOF. With a macro lens and and aperture of 2.8 and when shooting 100mm away from the subject the depth on field will only be a few millimetres.

Using minimum depth of field is a good technique for isolating your subject matter. In this image of my college friend I have used both a minimum f number and put my subject close to the camera. This makes sure that the background is knocked out of focus.
