Connecting Essay 3

Reference Image:
In my reference image we see a woman in a red riding hood costume in a dark area and some mysterious looking eyes in the dark of the image. This shows elements of horror to it because we have the eyes in the background which add in an under tone of murder due to the wolf and the nature of the original Brothers Grimm Tale. One of the key features of this image I think is that you have the model looking away from the wolf and that the wolf is staring intensely at the woman creating the murderous undertone of the image.

My Image:
In my image we can tell that lots of different things are happening. Firstly we have the selective colour of the image were everything else is in black and white except for the red of the cape. This allows for the viewer to instantly know what is being portrayed in the image depicting "Little Red Riding Hood". The second thing element we have in the image is one of horror. If you look closely at Little Red you can make out a black figure behind her. This is her shadow but it still makes the image seem rather creepy because the figure looks like it is creeping up on her. The third element of horror in this image is the dark background. We can only see the foreground of the image and not the background because it is all black due to it being too dark. This adds an element of the unknown to the image allowing for the viewer to not know what the little girl is walking into activating everyones parental instincts making them think that what if it was their own child and  The final element of horror in this image is the weird tree structure on the right side. If you look at the trees there for long enough your brain starts to transform it into some weird creature to make the figure more recognisable.

The Connection:
The main connection between the two images is obviously the fact that both are of "Little Red Riding Hood". Another similarity between the two images is that both of them have different elements of horror within them. Both contain the darkness and the unknown of what is out there. In addition both also have some form of creature that can't be seen fully within them. In the Reference Image we see the eyes of the wolf in the background and in My Image we have the creature created by your own brain on the right side of the image.
